Live Oak Students Dive Into Reading With ABC10’s Story Time Event

ABC10 Anchor Jared Aarons reads to Live Oak Elementary students during the ABC 10News Story Time event

Students at Live Oak Elementary School were filled with excitement as they participated in the ABC 10News Story Time event, featuring a special reading by ABC10 Anchor Jared Aarons. Aarons delighted students with readings of “The Gruffalo” and other beloved children’s books, while emphasizing the importance of reading as a way to unlock future dreams and opportunities.

The event also served as a free book fair, where every student went home with a backpack filled with age-appropriate books, generously provided by North Island Credit Union. Each student received four new books tailored to their reading level and interests, making it a day to remember for all.

“We were thrilled to welcome ABC 10News to our campus,” said Patti Parson, Principal of Live Oak Elementary School. “For many of our students, this was a unique opportunity to take home books they might not otherwise have access to. Encouraging a love for reading is essential for their future success, and seeing their joy today was incredibly rewarding.”

This event is part of the broader ABC 10News Story Time initiative, a collaboration between ABC 10News, the San Diego Council on Literacy, and the San Diego County Office of Education, aimed at providing students in Title 1 schools across San Diego County with access to new, free books. Previously, the program focused on individual classrooms, but it has now expanded to reach entire grade levels through mini book fairs like the one held today.

“We’re so grateful for this partnership. It’s moments like these that will stay with our students for years to come, helping them develop a lifelong love of reading,” added Parson.

The Fallbrook Union Elementary School District extends its heartfelt thanks to ABC 10News, North Island Credit Union, and the San Diego Council on Literacy for making this memorable event possible. The generosity shown through the donation of books and the time spent inspiring students has had a lasting impact. We are grateful for the valuable resources and opportunities provided to our students, fostering their growth as readers and encouraging a passion for learning that will serve them well throughout their academic journey.
