FUESD Committed to Helping Military Families Thrive

The Fallbrook Union Elementary School District (FUESD) continues to demonstrate its deep commitment to military families by ensuring that all its schools meet the highest standards of support. As one of the few districts in the country to have every school designated as a Purple Star School, FUESD provides tailored resources that address the unique challenges faced by military-connected students and their families.

“At FUESD, supporting military families is integral to our core values and mission,” said Superintendent Monika Hazel. “We recognize the sacrifices and challenges military families encounter, and we are committed to providing them with the resources and support they need to thrive.”

The Purple Star designation is awarded to schools that demonstrate excellence in serving military-connected students. It signifies that a school offers comprehensive services, including smooth transitions for students moving between schools, social-emotional support during deployments, and close partnerships with military installations. FUESD’s recognition as a Purple Star District underscores its unwavering commitment to supporting military families at every level.

Both San Onofre School and Mary Fay Pendleton School, located aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, play a key role in FUESD’s efforts. These schools, along with others in the district, are equipped with dedicated staff, military family liaisons, and programs designed to ensure military families feel welcomed and supported.

In addition to its work at the local level, FUESD leadership recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with the National Association of Federally Impacted Schools (NAFIS). During these meetings, district leaders advocated for increased resources to further support military families. This trip highlights FUESD’s active role in seeking additional resources and ensuring the district can continue providing exemplary support to those who serve.

“The Purple Star designation is not just an accolade for us; it’s a reaffirmation of our unwavering commitment to serving those who serve our country,” Superintendent Hazel added. “We are deeply honored to receive this recognition and remain steadfast in our dedication to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all students and families.”

FUESD’s support for military families extends beyond the schools located on base. Every school in Fallbrook is dedicated to meeting the needs of military students and families, ensuring that no matter where they are in the district, military families feel supported and valued.
