Fallbrook Union Elementary School District recently hosted Farmers Markets at La Paloma, William H. Frazier, and San Onofre Schools, all organized by our dedicated Child Nutrition Services Department. These engaging events provided students with an incredible opportunity to learn about the importance of fresh, locally sourced foods and how these choices contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
At the market, students were given play money and encouraged to shop for fresh produce, allowing them to experience the joy of selecting healthy foods while also learning valuable lessons in financial literacy. By participating in the market, students not only gained hands-on experience with nutrition, sustainability, and the broader food system, but also learned how to make informed choices about their food and manage resources in a practical, interactive setting.
“These markets are a perfect example of how FUESD is committed to not only educating our students in the classroom but also providing them with real-world experiences that promote healthy lifestyles and practical life skills,” said Seth Trench, Director of Communications for FUESD. “By learning about the food system and financial responsibility firsthand, our students are empowered to make informed choices that will benefit them for years to come.”
These events exemplify the commitment of the Child Nutrition Services Department to cultivating lifelong healthy habits and practical skills among FUESD students. By engaging with the market, students are encouraged to make choices that positively impact both their health and their financial literacy.
