Fallbrook Union Elementary School District (FUESD) is reinforcing its commitment to student success with comprehensive reading intervention support. FUESD has continued to focus its resources on supporting students’ reading and achievement, developing its team to nine reading intervention teachers across the district. These educators are exclusively responsible for providing students with targeted, small-group support to help those in need of reading improvement.
FUESD’s Reading Intervention program is designed to bolster literacy skills among students, equipping them with the tools they need to excel in their studies and beyond. This initiative caters to the diverse needs of its students, fostering a love for reading and empowering them to succeed academically.
Melissa Rodriguez, a Reading Intervention Teacher at one of the district’s elementary schools, expressed her enthusiasm for this ongoing initiative, saying, “The District and School Board’s investment in intervention teachers has provided students with targeted instruction to address specific gaps in foundational skills. As Reading Intervention Teachers, we know that we serve students with a wide variety of literacy needs, and we know confidence is often lacking as well. We meet students where they are with intentional instruction, assess frequently to monitor progress, and share authentic praise often. Students make gains in reading, and just as importantly, in self-confidence. Successes, no matter how small, become motivation for students to persevere. Students know that our shared goal is for them to become confident, competent, grade-level readers. However, we believe achieving this goal is just the beginning. As Malala Yousafzai asserted, “One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.” FUESD’s investment in our students’ literacy is an investment in their futures and the impact they will have on their world.”
FUESD Superintendent, Monika Hazel commented on the program’s significance, stating, “Reading is the foundation of academic achievement, and FUESD recognizes its pivotal role in our students’ success. By maintaining a comprehensive Reading Intervention program at all our schools, we continue to address the unique needs of each student. This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence in our district and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
The Fallbrook Union Elementary School District’s Reading Intervention program is set to continue reinforcing its dedication to providing quality education and supporting students in their educational journey. FUESD anticipates that this ongoing initiative will continue to positively impact student achievement, leading to improved performance in English Language Arts and Math.
