Last night’s FUESD Board meeting kicked off with an outstanding presentation by a team of students from Live Oak Elementary. These enthusiastic young leaders highlighted the many wonderful aspects of their school, including the dedicated staff, the supportive PTA, a variety of engaging school activities and clubs, and the always-inspiring leadership opportunities that encourage all students to get involved and grow as leaders.
The meeting continued with the now-renowned Attendance Award, recognizing the school with the highest attendance rate in the district. This initiative, strongly supported by Superintendent Monika Hazel and the Board of Trustees, aligns with the district’s goal of improving chronic absenteeism across all campuses. La Paloma Elementary proudly claimed this honor for the fourth time in a row—an impressive achievement! Congratulations to the LAP community for their continued commitment to student attendance.
Next, we celebrated one of the district’s most cherished traditions—the Rising Reader Award. This award recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to improving their reading skills. It’s always a pleasure to acknowledge the hard work of our young scholars as they develop a lifelong love of reading.
A new recognition was also introduced during this meeting—the Mathematics Achievement Award. Each month, Potter Junior High will honor students for their commitment to academic excellence in IXL Math, an interactive platform that helps students practice skills tailored to their learning levels. This month’s award focused on skill proficiency, and we were thrilled to celebrate three seventh and eighth graders who achieved the highest number of proficient skills. Congratulations to these students for their remarkable progress!
The evening concluded with an insightful presentation by Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Tavga Bustani. She provided an update on the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) goals, emphasizing the district’s ongoing efforts to meet and surpass these objectives. Her report highlighted the strides being made to enhance educational outcomes and ensure that all students have the resources they need to succeed.

La reunión de la Junta de FUESD de anoche comenzó con una presentación excepcional por parte de un equipo de estudiantes de Live Oak Elementary. Estos entusiastas jóvenes líderes destacaron muchos aspectos maravillosos de su escuela, incluyendo el personal dedicado, el apoyo de la PTA, una variedad de actividades escolares y clubes, y las siempre inspiradoras oportunidades de liderazgo que animan a todos los estudiantes a participar y crecer como líderes.
