The Fallbrook Union Elementary School District (FUESD) Governing Board came together at its regular meeting on October 2, 2023, to pass a historic resolution, Resolution #06-23/24, recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th through October 15th. The resolution was passed unanimously, highlighting the district’s commitment to celebrating the diverse and rich heritage of its Hispanic and Latino community.
Fallbrook has a deep-rooted connection to Latin American history, dating back to 1769 when the area was first settled by Native American Luiseños and three Mexican families, including the Alvarados, the Picos, and the Ocampos. Today, the FUESD is proud to serve a diverse community of learners, with 64% of its students identifying as Hispanic or Latino, enriching the district with a myriad of cultural, linguistic, and social contributions.
Hispanic and Latin Americans have made significant contributions to the community and the country in fields such as education, science, politics, arts, literature, and industry. Their cultural and linguistic assets enrich the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District and contribute to its strength, vibrancy, and excellence.
The Governing Board encourages all schools and staff within the district to actively participate in and initiate educational activities, classroom lessons, and community events that honor and celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latin Americans.
